Bruin Academy Application
Dear student and parents/guardians:
Thank you for your interest in Bruin Academy, Bartlesville High School's alternative program. All forms in this packet must be completed and returned to me or to your guidance counselor before you may be considered for acceptance into Bruin Academy. The information will be reviewed as space becomes available at the beginning of each semester. Students and parents will also be required to attend an intake interview with the Bruin Academy selection committee prior to being selected for the Academy.
The parent and student information forms in your packet ask for some very personal information. The information you put on those forms will be kept strictly confidential. If either the parent or student does not want the form seen by the other, simply seal those surveys in individual envelopes. If you have any other questions about the forms in this packet, please feel free to call me at 336-3311 ext. 1075 or email me at BrownRL@bpsok.org.
Important Information:
Bruin Academy operates on a semester schedule. Students may be absent only 9 days per semester. Adherence to the tardy policy is expected. We also expect parent support with regard to attendance. We require a parent phone call to the BHS attendance office on the day of any absence. Doctors' notes will not be considered as sufficient reason for excessive absences.
All Bartlesville High School rules also apply at Bruin Academy. Please refer to the student handbook. However, discipline options may vary.
Enrollment in Bruin Academy is a privilege, not a right. We offer our students a "chance for change." If your student does not benefit from the program or comply with our requirements for continued enrollment, he/she may be asked to leave. Our purpose is to help at-risk students make positive changes, both academically and personally.
Sincerely,
Rebecca L. Brown M.Ed., NBCT
Bruin Academy Counselor
